Painting alongside @rebeccarodda_ , we have been in Hastings at the Day Dream Cafe, and Ashburnham Place Retreat centre . Having time for improvisation & creativity amongst people from across the world. I am still processing it all but very grateful to have been part of it . Watching harbour life and gig- races during the summer regattas in Cornwall and North Devon was incredible. So captivating and full of life and energy ! Coming home and trying the capture the movement and beauty in paint is quite an ask but I’m loving giving it a go!

Sometimes we make work that we don’t have words for. I have sat with this one… it is my cry for peace. As we watch on our screens the news across the world and in Gaza we feel the earthquake ,wind and fire and I find myself longing for a ‘still small voice of calm’. It is a prayer.

It’s not often I long for a book NOT to end.. but ‘Raising hare’ by Chloe Dalton made me do exactly that. It is a beautiful read and I didn’t want to put it down! I found myself needing to paint the picture of the hare she described… In all its wild beauty and its comings and goings.
I am grateful for a book that has made me stop and see the world differently.. looking at nature and our small interactions with it, as a priceless gift .
So this was my response. Enjoy ☺️ and perhaps if you haven’t yet read it- this could be a nudge to get it or to simply slow down a little and look outside. We are surrounded by little enchanting miracles of creation everywhere. Happy Friday xx

‘Nightjars at dusk on Whitmoor Common’ … is flying home! So thrilled to have finished this one for beautiful friends. I will miss its peaceful presence in my studio and the joy of listening to birdsong for hours while i painted it. At times i was just in tears at the sheer privilege of being able to do this for a job. Some things in life are worth waiting for. Painting full time and being able to do it for such dear friends is a joy beyond joys….my goodness it was worth waiting for. Never give up on your dreams. Xx

Some paintings never quite leave you…
‘All that a mother holds’ is that for me.
What may not be known about it, is that it has a hole in its centre from when I scrapped so hard into the canvas through many tears…for many years I thought it meant it was ruined… but now I realise that this is far from the truth - Yesterday I was reminded again that it’s actually these holes that let the light shine through.
We can’t get through this life without tears and rips in our very souls - but we can find the light that shines through them… in whatever you are holding today - no matter how ruined things may feel - there is always hope.

Ah I think this is finally finished… it’s Friday -so much is happening in the world right now that is disorientating…& in some strange logic I find I am grounding myself by looking to the skies…looking up…. Here I am finding great comfort in the organised murmurations of beautifully choreographed bird flight. Oh how I love the freedom of their dances in the sky….
